GENERAL
OPHTHALMOLOGY
Dr.
Schnipper has proudly served the people of greater Jacksonville
with advanced eye care since 1972. He established and maintains
a general ophthalmology practice with devoted attention
to patient care. Dr. Schnipper was the first to bring corneal
refractive surgery to this region by performing the first
RK procedure here in 1980. He later opened the existing
state of the art facility in Riverside, with a fully accredited
ambulatory surgicenter in 1993.
Dr.
Schnipper has always provided his patients access to the
best technology available for both diagnostics as well as
surgery. Some of the many existing treatments performed
on a weekly basis here include but are not limited to:

-
Medicare just approved the use of accommodative
intraocular lenses which can be used to benefit
many senior patients who wish to restore their ability
to read without glasses, as well as to see clearly in
the distance. *
There
are several accommodative intraocular lenses (IOL’s)
currently available, including ReSTOR by Alcon, ReZoom an
AMO lens, and Crystalens from Eyeonics. These lenses are
able to restore your eye’s natural focusing ability
by using a lens design that mimics the way your natural
lens used to flex and focus for near vision. These are implanted
in the identical manner as other IOL’s using the same
technique as modern cataract surgery. Dr. Schnipper can
safely perform this in the surgicenter on an out-patient
basis and normal work and recreational activities can be
resumed within a few days. It is important to thoroughly
discuss if this procedure is an option for you and which
lens would be best for your situation.
Dr. Schnipper has the ability and facility to perform a
full array of ophthalmic procedures, he will discuss which,
if any, procedure(s) would be best for you.
