Are
You a Candidate for Blade-Free LASIK?
The
Ideal Candidate
In general, the ideal candidate for LASIK is more than 18 years old with healthy corneas. Patients must not have had a significant increase in their prescription in the last 12 months. Also, people with certain medical conditions or women who are pregnant may not be good candidates for LASIK.
Range
Currently LASIK performed by Dr. Schnipper can correct more than
-12.00 diopters of myopia and more than -6.00 diopters of astigmatism.
The maximum correction possible may depend on the thickness of your
cornea.
Farsightedness correction can also be performed with or without astigmatism up to +6.00 diopters of farsightedness with up to -6.00 diopters of astigmatism.
Expectations
The decision to choose LASIK is an important one that ultimately, only you can make. You should have realistic expectations, based on facts, not hopes or misconceptions. Our ultimate goal with LASIK is to give you better than 20/20 vision and better night vision than was even possible with your corrective lenses. In fact, with today's blade-free, wave technology, you may actually see the best vision you've ever experienced!
But LASIK does not always create 20/20 vision. It cannot correct a condition known as presbyopia, or aging of the eye, which normally occurs around ages 40-45 and may require the use of reading glasses. In fact, some people older than 40 who gain improved distance vision may find they need reading glasses after the procedure. Dr. Schnipper will provide you with additional information that will allow you to make an informed decision.
The
First Step
Finding out more about your refractive error is your first
step toward visual independence. Simply contact Dr. Schnipper
and schedule a personal consultation.
If your refractive error falls within the range of correction
for LASIK, more comprehensive tests will be necessary.
